Your app is ready — now it needs to reach users. Here is a practical guide to publish your app on Google Play Store without common delays and rejections.
Step 1: Create a Google Play Console account
Sign up at the Play Console with a Google account and pay the one-time registration fee. Choose a personal or organisation account — organisations need a D-U-N-S number and verified business details.
Step 2: Complete identity verification
Google verifies developer identity and contact details. Keep your documents ready to avoid waiting.
Step 3: Meet testing requirements
New personal developer accounts must run a closed test with a minimum number of testers for a set period before production access. Check the current requirement in Play Console and plan this into your launch timeline.
Step 4: Prepare your store listing
- App name (up to 30 characters) with a relevant keyword
- Short description (80 characters) and full description
- High-quality icon (512×512) and feature graphic (1024×500)
- At least 2 screenshots, ideally 5–8 showing key features
- Category, contact email and privacy policy URL
Step 5: Fill in policy declarations
Complete the content rating questionnaire, data safety form, target audience and ads declaration honestly. Wrong declarations are a common reason for rejection.
Step 6: Upload the app bundle
Upload a signed Android App Bundle (.aab), set the version and release notes, and roll out first to internal or closed testing.
Step 7: Submit for review and launch
After review, roll out to production — you can start with a small percentage of users and increase gradually.
App Store Optimization (ASO) tips
- Use your main keyword naturally in the title and description
- Show benefits in screenshots, not just screens
- Ask happy users for ratings inside the app
- Reply to reviews and update regularly
